Lyle Nelson wins Runoff Election

City of Bastrop voters turned out in the numbers necessary to elect Lyle Nelson as the next City of Bastrop Mayor, defeating opponent Dock Jackson by 46 votes. Nelson had 567 votes, to Jackson’s 521, and will succeed Connie Schroeder who is stepping down after 2 terms. The swearing in ceremony will be held June 20th, 2023 at 6:00PM at City Hall.

On Sunday Mayor Elect Nelson commented “I am honored and humbled to be elected as Bastrop’s next mayor. I believe the key to winning was voter involvement as well as a consistent message about continuing to address our infrastructure and encouraging positive development.”

The pride of Bastrop City voters in this election is evidenced by the support from individuals and organizations throughout Bastrop County. Congratulations Mayor Elect Lyle Nelson !

Bastrop County Republican Party Endorses Lyle Nelson for Mayor of Bastrop, TX.

  • Chairman of the Regional Transit Coordination Committee, an organization that provides  coordination support for transportation organizations, health and human service agencies, and other transit providers,

“I Voted” Sticker Contest

The Bastrop County Elections Office conducted their First Ever “I Voted” and “Future Voter” sticker contest announcing the winners and presented awards at the Commissioners Court on February 27th.

Congratulations to Sophia Royster, a Junior attending Smithville High School, for winning First Place!  In second place is Avery Fobert, a 7th Grade student at Bastrop Middle School. Third place goes to Mateo Martinez, a Sophomore homeschool student, and son of BCRP Precinct 1003 Chairwoman Cathy Martinez and husband George.

“Future Voter” Sticker Contest Winners

Congratulations to Kyla Coleman, a 2nd Grade student at Bluebonnet Elementary School, for winning Bastrop County’s first “Future Voter” Sticker Contest! In second place is Isaiah Mubasher, a 3rd Grade homeschool student. Third place goes to Henley Duty, a 1st Grade student at Smithville Elementary School.

Leadership Institute Campaign Training

Monday, March 6, 5:00 pm, Casa Chapala Bastrop

Bastrop County Conservatives mission is to support the election of conservative candidates. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable information about running and supporting a successful political campaign.

Our County elections are here in May. Our candidate Sourcing and Selection Committee is hard at work. We will very quickly be moving to candidate support, getting candidates elected.

With that thought in mind, the Leadership Institute is offering a training to assist in our success.   The training event will be held at Casa Chapala, March 6th, 2023 at 5:00pm Preregistration is required.  See link below to sign up.

This event will cover –

  • Responsibilities and activities of a School Board
  • Developing a campaign strategy
  • Building a coalition
  • Getting involved
  • Building your team

Your meeting coordinator/speaker will be Robert Arnakis, the Senior Director of Domestic and International Programs for the Leadership Institute.  Mr. Arnakis oversees divisions which provide political education and consultation to senior government officials, public policy leaders and influencers. His background includes serving as senior staff to multiple Presidential and Congressional campaigns. Additionally, Mr. Arnakis has consulting experience with multiple grassroots driven organizations.

To attend the meeting, you must sign up in advance, no later than Thursday March 2nd. Fee is $15.00, which includes dinner. Why only $15.00? The Leadership Institute is funded with charitable donations and offers these classes as an outreach to promote conservative causes.

Volunteer Deputy Registrar

The Bastrop County Election Department announces the following changes in VDR renewals …

All current Volunteer Deputy Registrar terms expire 12/31/2022.

Effective January 02, 2023, the Bastrop County Elections Department will conduct in-person training and reciprocity for ALL Volunteer Deputy Registrars.

All VDR’s wishing to renew their certification for the upcoming ’23-24 term must attend and complete the required training session. New VDR certificates, numbers and supplies will be issued at the time of completion. Please review the schedule image below for available training session dates and times. Sign-up is encouraged but not required.

Bastrop County Elections Sticker Design Contest

Design Contest to Determine the New 2023-2024 “I Voted” and “Future Voter” Stickers for Bastrop County The Bastrop County Elections Department is conducting Bastrop County’s first “I Voted” and “Future Voter” design contest. The contest is open to all Bastrop County students, K-12, enrolled in a Public, Private, or Homeschool setting. The winning designs will be used as the official “I Voted” and “Future Voter” sticker in the 2023-2024 Election cycle. The Deadline to submit a design is Friday, February 10, 2023, at 5pm.
 
Once all designs are submitted, a panel of 5 esteemed judges will pick the winning design.  Contest judges will be Lyndsey Schroeder, Executive Assistant to the Bastrop County Judge, Christopher White, Communications Specialist, Bastrop Independent School District, Lindsey Saunders, Communications Officer, Smithville Independent School District, Marcial Guajardo, Communications Coordinator, Elgin Independent School District, and Heather Stidham, Superintendent, McDade Independent School District. Judging will be based on theme, uniqueness of the design, and artistry.
 
Winners will be notified by the Elections Department on Monday, February 20, 2023. Those individuals will then be invited to an award ceremony during Commissioners Court on Monday, February 27, 2023, where we will announce the winners to the public.
 
Participants must agree to the contests official rules and submit their design by completing an “I Voted” and “Future Voter” Sticker Design Entry Form. All Submissions must be sent to  by 5pm on Friday, February 10, 2023. More information is available on the Elections Department website at www.bastropvotes.org. or the links below !!
